Neil Hilder

Chairman - Neil Hilder

I started sailing at age 10 when my parent brought a Easterly 30 to go cruising.

(my current boat "Tickled Pink" was berthed 2 boats along from where my parents kept their boat)

This soon gave me the sailing bug and I started racing dinghy's at Manly sailing club, then moving on to keel boat racing, where I have raced on Young 88's, Elliot 1050's, Young 11's and Coppelia, the mighty Farr 38 with Rob Croft, who I have done many miles with.

With Rob on Coppelia I have completed a RNI race(1999), 2 Akl to Fiji race (winning on PHRF in 2000.), at least 2 Akl to Tauranga races, more Coastal Classics than I care to remember (or can't remember!) and a Auckland to Gisborne race in 2000.

Along the way I have done many miles on Hydroflow with Ron Brittain. I think at least 2 Coastals, 3 or 4 seasons of Gold Cup's and a Auckland to Noumea 2003?

I did my first Triple Series with Gary Drummond on his Elliot 1050 Rockstar in 2001.

Over the years I think I have done at least 10 Triples series.

I have also done a Hong Kong to Hainan (China sea race) and Brisbane to Keppel Island and I'm planning to do the B2K again this year.

Andrew Mackmurdie

President - Andrew Mackmurdie

Andrew was introduced to sailing in a 12 foot, clinker built National at an early age on the upper reaches of Auckland harbour before spending the next 15 years in the bush and tramping in the Wairarapa and South Island.

Reintroduced to big boat sailing in Seattle, he spent a year crewing on a race boat on Puget Sound, before returning to New Zealand.  Upon becoming a partner in an H28, he got back into the Auckland Sailing scene, eventually sailing on Mahia (Lotus 12.8) for ten  years, before beginning to sail his  Farr 1020 (The V Team) in both SSANZ and RNZYS series. He currently actively sails Duty Free (Farr 1220) in which he completed the SSANZ 2014 RNI.

Andrew particularly likes the short handed series and longer races, which he wishes to do more of, but finds difficulties balancing this with a very busy consulting and travel schedule.
